Mrs Readalots Book Club....

Thank goodness I suggested two books this month.

I read The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd a year or two ago and LOVED it. I can't remember it in enough detail to review except to say that I adored most of the characters and shed quite a few tears. If you read this book I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and I look forward to reading your reviews.

So when I was in the library at the end of last month and saw Traveling with Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd and her daughter Ann Kidd Taylor I thought it would be worth a read. Sadly I did not finish it. I wanted to...but I just couldn't get through it.

It had potential - I liked the idea of a mother daughter story, written by a mother and daughter. I liked that they were both using the same trip to deal with different personal issues. And some of the writing was beautiful. But it just didn't draw me in enough.

It was a bit too wishy-washy for me. Too many symbolic moments for me.

More reviews found on GoodReads.

Did you read it? What did you think? See linky below (sorry it is not a flash thumbnail one, but best i could whip up in Mrs Readlots absence).

So again, I'm sorry for possibly the worse book suggestion...or maybe its just me.

Look forward to next months book suggestion Jamie at Cactus Chatter.

Hey Lyns!
first of..how are you doing????
Good to see you here
yeah I read both...LOVED Secret Life of Bees

as far as Traveling with Pomegranates..I enjoyed Sue's writing, but did not take to her daughters so much.
We read this one at our book club and we got the sense that the daughter was trying to break into the writing world using her mother as a catalyst.
I love the cover of the book and I was intrigued by the symbolism....but again if they took out the daughters part I would have been happy with Sues story alone.

love and light

Hey Lyns, SORRY Mrs Readalot was out of the office!!! I have a post in my head and now just need the time to write it. Couldn't find Secret Life of Bees ANYWHERE to buy or borrow.
It will go on my must read list.
Have been busy chewing through some other good ones though.
xx
Will link up ASAP - hopefully this weekend!

I am still waiting on the Secret Life of Bees to arrive! Hopefully it is what is sitting at the post office waiting for me to pick up tomorrow morning!

Can't wait to read it though and let you know what I think of it.
